DOWNTOWN ARTS DISTRICT AND VICINITY
Crow Collection of Asian Art (1a) - The Crow Collection contains more than 600 paintings, objects of metal and stone, and large architectural pieces from China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. Over 300 works are on display in the galleries, including precious jade ornaments, delicate Japanese scrolls and a rarely seen sandstone façade of an 18th century Indian residence.
Dallas Museum of Art (1b) - Collection includes American masterpieces by Church, O’Keeffe and Wyeth, contemporary art by Pollock, Rothko, Warhol and Lichenstein, European and impressionist art by Renoir, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Monet, and art of the Americas, Africa Asia and the Pacific. Special temporary exhibits are on display throughout the year.

Nasher Sculpture Center (1c) - The Nasher Sculpture Center consists of a 54,000-square-foot building designed by architect Renzo Piano, featuring the contemporary art collection of philanthropist and collector Ray Nasher and his late wife, Patsy, and a 1.4-acre sculpture garden created by landscape architect Peter Walker. The Nasher Collection is considered one of the
foremost collections, private or public, of contemporary 20th-Century sculpture in the world. Comprised of more than 300 pieces, the collection features works by Calder, de Kooning, Kelly, Matisse, Miro, Picasso, Rodin and Serra, among many others.
Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center (1d) - Multimillion-dollar facility designed by architect I. M. Pei with acoustics by Russell Johnson. The 260,000-sq.-ft. facility is the home of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, which plays a full schedule of both home performances and tours. The symphony’s consistent excellence rates it among the nation’s top 10. The Meyerson is also a public facility utilized by numerous groups.
Latino Cultural Center (2) - The Latino Cultural Center provides artists, cultural organizations and the Latino community with the facilities and opportunities to develop and celebrate their unique cultural talents and gifts. The Center presents opportunities for education and experience in quality visual, literary, media and traditional arts. The center also provides a venue and workspace for artists.
WESTEND AREA
Dallas Holocaust Memorial Center (3a) - A museum dedicated to reducing prejudice by teaching about the Holocaust, preserving the experience of those who survived, and honoring the memory of those who perished.
Dallas World Aquarium (3b) - Exotic plants and creatures from around the world where you can explore a South American rainforest or take a walk through a water tunnel surrounded by reef life from the Continental Shelf. Observe monkeys, stingrays, piranhas and penguins.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza (3c) - A permanent, educational exhibition at Dealey Plaza on the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. Exhibits feature photographs, artifacts, a 30-minute audio tour and six films. Visit the 7th floor gallery for rotating exhibits throughout the year.
FAIR PARK AREA AND VICINITY
Dallas Firefighters Museum (4) - Located in one of the city’s oldest remaining fire stations that was built in 1907 and originally the home to Hook and Ladder Company No. 3. The Museum boasts a fantastic collection of fire apparatus including “Old Tige”, an 1884 horse-drawn steam pumper named after then mayor W.L. Cabell. There is over 100 years of firefighting history through a collection of extinguishers, helmets, tools and uniforms. While you are there, listen to the sounds of present day firefighters responding to alarms and serving the citizens of Dallas.
Fair Park (5) - This 277-acre historical landmark encompasses the largest collection of cultural facilities in Dallas. Open year-round, it is home to eight museums, the Cotton Bowl, Music Hall, the Smirnoff Music Centre and a Vietnam memorial. Established in 1880, the State Fair of Texas is staged at Fair Park every fall.
• African American Museum (5a) - Founded in 1974 as part of the Bishop College Library, the
museum houses one of the largest collections of African-American folk art in the nation The African
American Museum is the only major museum in the Southwestern United States devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural and historical materials. It also has
one of the largest African American folk art collections in the United States.
• Age of Steam Railroad Museum (5b) - Relive the golden age of the passenger train at this excellent outdoor exhibit. Features the world’s largest diesel electric locomotive. Dallas owes its growth and prosperity to the coming of the railroads. Come see and explore the trains that helped build our city and the nation at the Age of Steam Railroad Museum at Fair Park
• American Museum of the Miniature Arts (5c) - (Originally known as the Dollhouse Museum of the Southwest) has a unique permanent collection, consisting of dollhouses, miniatures, dolls, and
antique toys; as well as private collections on loan to the museum and traveling exhibits, featuring
nationally and world renowned artisans. More than a showcase, the museum’s exhibits are designed to reinforce an appreciation for craftsmanship, design, lifestyles and other cultural aspects. It is a place full of dreams and imagination (Sharp Gallery at the Hall of State).
•Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park (5d) - The Aquarium is home to a varied collection of approximately 6,000 aquatic animals, including marine and fresh-water fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Come enjoy animal feedings daily at 2:30 p.m.
•Dallas Horticulture Center/Texas Discovery Gardens (5e) - Bring your family and friends to explore this year-round urban oasis. Experience the wonders of butterflies, bugs and botany at Texas Discovery Gardens!
• Dallas Museum of Natural History (5f) - Since its founding in 1936, the Dallas Museum of Natural History has played a significant role in documenting, describing and showcasing Texas’ vast natural diversity. The current collection of over 280,000 specimens includes the world’s largest exhibition of Texas wildlife habitats, and the first mounted Texas dinosaur in Texas.
• Hall of State (5g) - Built in 1936 for the centennial celebration, The Dallas Historical Society’s
home, The Hall of State is a salute to the State of Texas.
• The Science Place & TI Founder’s IMAX Theater (5h)- The Science Place is one of the most compelling and unique museums in the Southwest United States. The Science Place is about discovering the joy of learning through over 200 hands-on exhibits, larger than life IMAX® films, engaging light shows, planetarium and exhilarating soundscapes in a virtual playground for the imagination.
• The Women’s Museum: An Institute for the Future (5i) - A Smithsonian Affiliate, this museum is the nation’s only comprehensive women’s museum. Showcasing the accomplishments and achievements of American women, the museum’s exhibits and programs make visible the unique, textured and diverse stories of these women and their impact on shaping American history.
MESQUITE

Mesquite Arts Center/Mesquite Community Theater (6) - The Mesquite Arts Center is an oasis of culture in east Dallas County. Home to 16 different arts groups, the center contains a state of the art Concert Hall that seats 500, a black-box theater that seats up to 125, a rehearsal hall that holds 100, and two gallery spaces, along with a wonderfully landscaped stone courtyard that is the site of outdoor Shakespeare performances and jazz concerts.
Dallas Arboretum (7) - Just minutes from downtown and Fair Park area on the shore of White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum features 66 acres of 11 lush display gardens that offer seasonal color all year long. Home of Dallas Blooms Spring, the Southwest’s largest outdoor floral festival, the Arboretum provides a tranquil oasis where visitors are surrounded by the beauty of all four seasons. It is also home to the magnificent DeGolyer Estate, the Spanish Colonial-style mansion built in 1940 by Texas oil man Everett DeGolyer.

Meadows Museum (8) - The centerpiece of SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts, The Meadows Museum houses one of the most significant collections of Spanish art outside of Spain. The collection includes works by Velazquez, Ribera, Zurbaran, El Greco, Murillo, Goya, Miro and Picasso.
Frontiers of Flight Museum (9) - You can embark on your aviation journey at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, located on the southeast side of Love Field in Dallas, a Smithsonian affiliated museum, where you bridge several lifetimes starting with the pioneers who realized their earliest dreams of flying up through today’s industry.
Charles W. Eisemann Center (10) - Named one of “D” Magazine’s "Arts & Culture Best Venue" in 2004. With facilities of over 1550 seats it is large in capacity, yet intimate…warm, and inviting by design. Its interior architectural treatment, with natural wood-clad walls sculpted according to acoustical requirements, reflects the restrained and elegant character envisioned for this performance space. It is an exceptional environment for symphonic music, dance, musical theatre, opera, and a wide range of concerts and other performing arts attractions.
Cavanaugh Flight Museum (11) - Located at the Addison Airport just north of Dallas, this museum encompassing nearly 50,000 square feet of display area in four hangars containing aircraft spanning history from World War I through Vietnam, artwork, artifacts and if you dare – take a ride in two distinctive warbirds, the “N2S-4 Stearman” and the “AT-6 Texan”.
Dallas Children’s Museum (12) - Dallas Children’s Museum immerses children and their families in an environment that stimulates exploration and discovery and empowers them with knowledge through fun, interactive experiences.

National Scouting Museum (13) - A tribute to the rich history of the Boy Scouts of America, the museum features a Norman Rockwell art gallery, virtual reality adventures, hands-on learning experiences, and a historical collection that traces the Scouting movement from its beginnings.
Irving Arts Center (14) - A splendid complex that includes two art galleries, an outdoor sculpture garden and three theater/concert auditoriums for year-round exhibits and live performances.
Farmers Branch Historical Park - The Historical Park is nestled on 22 acres that trace more than 165 years of proud Farmers Branch heritage.

American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum (15) - If your interests are more focused in commercial
aviation, then the American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum is one of the only museums in the world solely dedicated to this industry segment. It’s a sight-and-sound, hands-on, window-seat look at the world of flight - an adventure offering you a chance to hear, see, touch and be a part of the exciting aviation industry and is conveniently located just south of the D/FW International Airport.
Palace of Wax Museum & Ripley’s Believe It or Not! (16) - Two of the most unique and entertaining attractions in the Texas Metroplex under one roof. In the Palace of Wax, come face to face with lifelike figures from Hollywood, horrors, the Old West, history, childhood fantasy and the life of Christ. Ripley’s showcases eye-popping galleries displaying the most beautiful, bizarre and fascinating oddities from around the world. All are authentic – BELIEVE IT OR NOT!
International Museum of Cultures (17) - The only cultural institution of its kind in Texas, this unique museum focuses upon contemporary peoples and challenges of currently existing communities in remote locations of the world. Through exhibits, educational programs and public events, it celebrates peoples of diverse cultures in an effort to promote greater appreciation and understanding of cultural differences found both in isolated areas of the world and in our own community.

National Cowboys of Color Museum (19) -This fascinating museum highlights the role of African-Americans in the great adventure of the American West. The story of these trail-blazing cowboys, such as Bill Picket, is told through artwork, photos and other historical items.
Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall (20) -The crown jewel of downtown Fort Worth, Bass Performance Hall was named “one of the top 10 opera houses in the world” by Travel + Leisure. This acoustically perfect hall is the permanent home of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Texas Ballet Theater, the Fort Worth Opera, the Cliburn Concerts, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, as well as special presentations by Casa Mañana.
Fire Station No. 1—150 Years of Fort Worth History (21) - Housed in a beautiful, historic fire station in Sundance Square, this exhibit tells the story of the first 150 years of Fort Worth. It is a terrific introduction to the city’s colorful past.
Sid Richardson Collection of Western Art (22) - Permanent exhibit of 60 paintings by Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell from the collection of Sid W. Richardson located in Sundance Square.
Cattle Raisers Museum (23) - This museum tells the true story of the cattle and ranching industry in the Southwest. Talking mannequins, interactive exhibits, and authentic artifacts give visitors an up-close look at cattlemen, cowboys, ranch hands and rustlers.

Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (24a) - Designed by acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the museum features 53,000 square feet of gallery space showcasing masterworks of modern and contemporary American and European art from 1945 tothe present, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, and photography.

Kimbell Art Museum (24b) - Known as "America’s best small museum," the Kimbell offers a world-class collection of art, with masterpieces from antiquity to the 20th century and the building, designed by the great American architect Louis Kahn, is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding public art facilities in the world.
Amon Carter Museum (24c) - This stunning museum, housing one of the finest collections of American art anywhere, has reopened after a $39 million expansion designed by Philip Johnson. Long admired for its legendary collection of art by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell, the museum now houses almost 250,000 works of American art, including masterpieces in painting, sculpture and photography from 1825-1950.
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History/Omni Theater (24d) - One of the largest science and history museums in the Southwest, this outstanding facility offers worlds of fun for everyone. The museum is home to nine permanent exhibits, plus the amazing domed Omni Theater, and the stellar Noble Planetarium.
National Cowgirl Museum of Fort Worth (24e) - This is the only museum in the world dedicated to the courageous women who embody the spirit of the American West – including pioneers, artists, writers, entertainers, ranchers, and rodeo cowgirls. The museum includes exhibit galleries featuring artifacts of the permanent collection, traveling exhibits, a multi-purpose theater, and expanded research library and a retail store.
Fort Worth Botanic Gardens (25) - The oldest botanic garden in Texas, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden contains more than 2,500 native and exotic species of plants in 109 acres of gardens and natural settings. The 7.5-acre Japanese Garden is a haven of peaceful beauty, with waterfalls and pools filled with Koi fish surrounded by evergreen shrubs, trees, flowers and colorful foliage.
Monnig Meteorite Gallery (26) - Located at TCU’s campus, visitors to the Monnig Meteorite Gallery are able to explore and ponder the mysteries of meteorites through a high-tech, state-of-the-art museum that houses one of the nation’s largest collections (over 1000) of meteorites.
STOCKYARDS AND VICINITY
Stockyards Museum (27) - See how Fort Worth became “Cowtown” at this enjoyable museum. Located in the historic Livestock Exchange Building, the museum tells the story of the Fort Worth Stockyards and the meatpacking industry in Fort Worth.
Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame (28) - The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame pays tribute to the cowboys and cowgirls of the Lone Star State. The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is housed in the area’s original horse and mule barns. The new museum features the Sterquell Wagon Collection, a fascinating collection of more than 60 wagons, carriages, and sleighs that have been beautifully restored. Enjoy videos, trophies, saddles and photographs from Hall of Fame honorees, plus the John Justin Trail of Fame, named for the legendary boot maker.
Vintage Flying Museum (29) - Spend some time at the Vintage Flying Museum in Fort Worth where you can see a variety of aircraft and exhibits including an inside of the B-17 Flying Fortress as well as the Texas Air Command’s newly formed collection of flyable military helicopters such as the Bell UH-1H Huey. These two attractions are located at Meacham Field just north of downtown Fort Worth.
Texas Civil War Museum (30) - This new museum (opening early 2006) will tell the true story of the War Between the States using artifacts, flags, and artwork showing both Union and Confederate involvement in the War. Contact information on Museums and Culture locations (TBD.)
